Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Return of Avoidance (ROA)?
ROA is our philosophy: the best way to protect data is to never collect it. Instead of asking "how do we secure this data?", we ask "do we really need this data?" This approach makes privacy compliance simpler and reduces your data liability.
How is the Privacy Score calculated?

We start at 100 points and deduct based on your data practices and metric selections:

  • -25: Persistent user ID tracking
  • -20: Device fingerprinting, third-party sharing, IP storage
  • -15: Advertising IDs (IDFA/GAID), precise location
  • -30: Email/PII in analytics

Metrics are also rated: 🟢 Safe (no deduction), 🟡 Caution (small deduction), 🔴 Risky (larger deduction).

What makes a metric "risky"?

Risky metrics typically:

  • Enable tracking users across sessions (persistent IDs)
  • Collect device identifiers used for advertising
  • Share data with third parties
  • Capture personally identifiable information (PII)
  • Use device fingerprinting techniques

These practices often require explicit user consent and must be disclosed in your privacy policy.

Do I need user consent for analytics?

It depends on your practices and jurisdiction. Generally:

  • 🟢 Session-based analytics with no persistent identifiers may qualify for the "strictly necessary" exemption
  • 🔴 Persistent tracking, advertising IDs, and third-party sharing typically require consent
  • iOS requires the ATT prompt for IDFA access
  • Google Play requires Data Safety form disclosure

Is this tool free?
Yes, completely free. It runs entirely in your browser — we don't see, collect, or store any of your selections. Your data never leaves your device.
How does Respectlytics help with privacy?

Respectlytics is built on the ROA philosophy. We only store 5 fields per event:

  • event_name - What happened
  • session_id - Hashed, RAM-only, rotates every 2 hours
  • timestamp - When it happened
  • platform - iOS/Android/Web
  • country - Derived from IP (IP never stored)

No persistent user IDs. No device fingerprinting. No third-party sharing.

🔒 Your privacy matters: This tool runs entirely in your browser. We don't see, collect, or store any of your responses.
