Analytics that writes nothing to the device
The session ID and the queue of unsent events live in memory only. Nothing is written to UserDefaults, SharedPreferences, AsyncStorage or a file, and a new session starts every two hours and on every launch.

What lives in memory, and for how long
Two things, both gone when the app closes.
- The session ID
- A random value created when the app starts, replaced after two hours and on every restart.
- The event queue
- Events waiting to be sent, in batches every 30 seconds or as soon as 10 are waiting.
Nothing is written to UserDefaults, SharedPreferences, AsyncStorage, the keychain or a file for analytics. You can confirm it in the open-source SDK code.
Why it matters
Storage on a user's device is a question privacy law asks on its own.
In the EU, Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive covers storing information on a user's device and reading information already stored there. Analytics that keeps a persistent ID on the phone falls squarely under it.
Respectlytics writes nothing to the device for analytics, which takes that part of the question out of your analytics setup. Whether your app needs consent for anything else is for your legal team to decide.
The trade-off
Memory is not a hard drive, and that is deliberate.
If the app is force-quit or crashes before a batch is sent, the events in that batch are lost. A failed send is retried up to three times while the app is still running.
In practice you lose a small tail of events from sessions that end abruptly. The alternative is a queue on disk, which is exactly the storage this design avoids.
Questions buyers ask
Straight answers, including the ones that might send you elsewhere.
Will I lose events?
Some, by design. Events wait in memory and are sent in small batches, every 30 seconds or as soon as 10 are waiting. Events not yet sent when the app is force-quit are lost.
What happens without a connection?
A failed send is retried up to three times while the app is running. If the app is closed before the events get through, they are gone.
Is anything left behind after uninstall?
There is nothing to leave behind. The SDK never wrote anything for analytics in the first place.
The other design choices
Each one removes something else from your privacy work.
