Find the onboarding step where new users give up
One event per onboarding step is enough to see where people stop. Respectlytics turns them into a funnel, ranks the steps where sessions end, and shows how long each step takes.
14-day free trial, no credit card. The demo runs on sample data, no signup.
The events
Send each one at the moment on its right. The names are a suggestion; keep whatever pattern you already use.
onboarding_started
The first onboarding screen appears
onboarding_goals_completed
One event per step; name each after what the step does
notification_prompt_shown
Your app asks for notification permission
notification_permission_granted
The user allows notifications
signup_completed
An account is created
onboarding_completed
The last onboarding step is done
The calls, per platform
One line per event. Configure the SDK once at launch, as each install guide shows.

Reading the funnel
Build one funnel from onboarding_started to onboarding_completed, with your steps in between.
- Where people stop
- Each step shows how many sessions reached it, and the drop-off list ranks the steps by how many sessions end there.
- Which step is slow
- The time between steps shows where people stall, such as a form that takes minutes instead of seconds.
- What a permission prompt costs
- Put notification_prompt_shown in the funnel and you see how many sessions continue after it.
- Whether a change helped
- Compare the funnel for the weeks before and after a release, on each platform.
Keep onboarding in one sitting
A funnel follows one session, never one person.
If people confirm their email tomorrow or finish setup on another device, that part shows up as a separate session. Measure what happens in one sitting as the funnel, and count the later steps on their own by day.
Questions buyers ask
Straight answers, including the ones that might send you elsewhere.
What if onboarding spans two sessions?
Then it appears as two sessions, because Respectlytics never links them. Keep the steps you want to measure as one funnel inside one sitting, and count steps like email confirmation on their own.
Should I track every screen?
No. Track the steps that matter for finishing onboarding. Ten clear steps tell you more than forty screen names.
Can I see which permission prompt costs the most users?
Yes. Track the prompt being shown and its answer as events, and the funnel shows how many sessions continue after each one.
